Happy Holidays!
I'll situate the final standing and post the 1st week of the year. Race promoters: I'll be taking new races to create the '07 schedule for the Bamacross Series. I know Montgomery and Anniston want 2 for '07. Cullman will be there and We'll have at least 1 in B'ham. So that leaves 2 spots open. Tuscaloosa?, Mobile? Huntsville?
Word.

Hey,Hey,Hey...GOODBYE!!!
Well, It's come to an end. The Bamacross Series shot it's final round yesterday in Cullman and it went out with style. I truly enjoyed the entire experience and I hope all of you did as well. It is so fulfilling to see people who you've ridden with a hundred times, but never seen racing, show up at the cross races with a smile. I'm also very proud to have 3 new race promoters in the state who did a ton of work and pulled off top notch events. We will be back for '07, bigger and badder. If you are a potential sponsor or know of one who would like to be part of a series like BAMACROSS, I'm all ears. That is one thing we were lacking this year - sponsorship dollars. All of the races were funded primarily by race entry fees. This left a big empty spot for series final payout and prizes. We should be able to pull in a title sponsor for next year to sweeten the pot.
I also want to devote an entire paragraph to say thank you to Jeff Haines. Not many people recognize Jeff buried in his laptop at registration. He does a flawless job that is a beast. He just knows what to do and he gets r done. If I'm promoting a race and Jeff can't show...I freak out! Thanks Jeff!!!!!!!
We went through the entire series with only a few hiccups...well, I made one yesterday. I failed to tally double points for the races and apply that to the series final. This should have placed Bart Davidson in 3rd place for the "c" series. Sorry Bart. I'll record on the final scoresheet and get you an appropriate prize.
If you have questions,Comments, Advise,Complaints...Leave them in the comment box.
Thanks,
Brent
PS. send me those pictures!!!

Irony
Cyclocross "tournament" in Montgomery makes the NEWS (pop up blocker bad). Well that's just great. You struggle and strain to find sponsors, venue and volunteers to host a downtown crit and the B grade media doesn't even show up. But, start a crappy little blog, get a few sponsors, buy some caution tape, load the cooler with beer...and you make the news - that's just great. Dave Mcneal even made the cover of SideTracked Magazine. This is an impressive new rag out of Wetumka, Al. that showcases fringe sports in the dirty south. As far as the team standings go, BBC looks to have a wrap on that thing. I don't even think they have to show up for the last race to win. So, I put the trophy on my desk, where it will be until the 17th.Here are the results from yesterday:

MUNGUMRY
Hope to see all you crazy crossers this weekend in the Capitol City. Can't say that I've ever raced my bike there before, looking forward to it. I know the Cycle Escape crew is fired up and will host a top notch event. Jeff with Cycle escape asked me to pass this on: "CycleEscape team has decided for our race to add another $250 to the pot for the A’s, to be divided among the men and women (one $250 total, not $250 each) *will just add the $250 to the rest of the money and divide as usually".
More cash is always good. Hungerford says that he will be taking all the money home with him and that Hurley was a pretender... He even threatened to breakout the zebra print spandex for further humiliation. Oh yeah, here's the perfect x-mas gift for the cyclist

Steppin Up!
So I wasn't there yesterday-But, word has it that Jerrod Dorminey put the spank-spank down and rode to his first 1/2/3 victory in his second race since catting up. I think boy wonder needs to do nationals and reprezent! I need some photos to post so shoot them to me marshallbrent@gmail.com, shoot me a race report to post as well. Till then I'll leave you with this little gem (my MAD skillz!) This drill repeated itself 3 times. I then declared the barriers unfit for hoppin.

Bathed in Pain
One more Leeds "Pain" Farm race this weekend. The owner says that we can park at the farm this week between the entrance and the bridge. The entrance to the farm is 1481 hwy 119 (i think thats right) it is just down 119 from the park. There will be an orange sign that says "CX" on it. Hope everyone comes out for the last race at this great venue. If you have questions or concerns, e-mail me @ marshallbrent@gmail.com or leave a comment below.

ummm, cross like, rocks!
Heard that yesterday. I think we're off to a really good start. I'm still too hazy to post of any significance, so I will lead you here: PICS Oh, and if you're thinking that a mtb is such an advantage on this course...think again. I will be reconfiguring the course to make mtb's pay the ultimate weight penalty!!! the climb will have 3 more s-turns similar to the one on the downhill. There will be a barricade at the bottom of the steep pitch (this 27# mtb sucks!!) and the downhill will have 1 or two more chicanes. The barricades will be spaced properly this week as well, so you don't have to 1/2 step the 2nd one. If you have suggestions, leave them in the comment section below.

Parking and Course
When you enter the park keep going until you see the soccer fields on your right and softball fields on your left, there will be a circle straight ahead. Park in the softball field gravel parking lot. Ride/Walk through the circle and over the bridge. As soon as you are across the bridge, look to your left, there is a path down the hill, go down, under the bridge. You will see the double track path. This path goes all the way to the horse farm. I will spray arrows in hideous construction orange to guide you. Once at the horse farm, registration will be at the barn. If you have someone with special needs, let me know and we will park you at the farm.
The course: 1.2 mi. start/finish will be on a flat dirt road, approx. 350 meters long, straight into an open grass area to the sand pit. From the sand pit, small up to a double track path ~100 meters long into the open power line area. Small downhill, long gradual climb to the barriers which will be situated at the bottom of a grunt run up. Remount at the top and short flat to a sharp righthand downhill sweeper small uphill then straight downhill, hold onto the bars and grit your teeth...smokin downhill on a cx bike is a blast. Bottom of the downhill and you turn back into the start/finish area. Bring the knobs, you'll need 'em!

Parking
For the first (3) races at Leeds Horse Park, We will be parking @ Leeds Memorial Park. The park is located right off of Hwy 119. Turn into park on Helen Street. Drive until you see softball/baseball fields on the left, this will be the parking area. There is a cul de sac near this parking lot where the path to the horse park starts. It is approx. 1/2 mi. walk/ride to the course (good warm up trail). Here is a google map link to the park http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Helen+Street,+Leeds,+AL&ie=UTF8&z=13&ll=33.544256,-86.561108&spn=0.062666,0.171661&om=1&iwloc=A

leeds horse farm
Viola Springs Farm
walked the property yesterday with the owner. i had some fears of parking and course layout being an issue before i got there. let me just say that there will be no issues here. this may be the perfect cross venue. the doctor who owns the property has held several 5k cross country runs and is fired up about cross. There are several wide trails, open easment areas and even a sand pit!!! the course we laid out for the october races should be a really good one to break everyone in to the cross season- not technical, wide open and only a mild leg breaker. it will be an even mix fitness vs. skills.
It looks like the series is shaping up with Anniston and Montgomery taking on one of the races each. Patrick from Wig's wheels in Anniston and Team Cycle Escape in Montgomery are putting together the details of their races. So our tentative schedule will go as follows:
10/15 - leeds horse farm
10/22 - leeds horse farm
11/5 - leeds horse farm
11/12 - anniston
12/3 - montgomery - Fain Park
12/17 - trussville or leeds horse farm (state championship)
